What is pass alarms?

Pass alarms or personal alert safety systems (PASS) are electronic safety devices that are designed to alert other firefighters or rescue workers in the event of an emergency situation. These devices are specifically designed for firefighters who work in hazardous environments such as those that are filled with smoke, toxic fumes, and low visibility, where they may become disoriented or trapped.

Pass alarms are generally worn on the firefighter's body and connected to their self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) or a clothing system. These alarms use various sensors and motion detectors to detect changes in movement and orientation. If the device registers no movement or activity for a predetermined period of time, it will sound an alarm to alert the firefighters or rescue workers that there is a potential problem.

In addition to alerting others of a potential problem, pass alarms can also be used to track and locate missing or lost firefighters in emergencies. Some of the more advanced models include GPS technology, which allows tracking of the firefighter's location in real-time. It is important that pass alarms are regularly maintained and checked for functionality to ensure that they work effectively in an emergency situation.
